Frequently asked questions
Short, honest answers
To the questions we are asked most often. Is your question not here? Feel free to get in touch.
What does the Layan Foundation do?
The Layan Foundation supports children who are victims of violence through no fault of their own in Gaza, the West Bank and Israel. We do this in a way that does not polarise, focused on dialogue, with universal human rights as our guide.
Which children does Layan work for?
For all children who are victims of this conflict, on all sides. The need is currently greatest among Palestinian children, and at the same time there is also suffering on the Israeli side that we do not ignore.
Does Layan take sides in the conflict?
No. We take no sides and we do not compare suffering. It is us and them, not us or them. Both peoples have a past and a future in this land.
Which projects do you support?
Theatre Day Productions (theatre and emergency care in Gaza). Previously, we also worked on Mobile Hospitals by CARE Nederland and on Pal Stories, a Palestinian storytelling platform. We are also exploring cooperation with organisations that bring Israeli and Palestinian people together. See everything on the Projects page.
Can I make an earmarked donation to a project?
Yes. Your gift is earmarked for Theatre Day Productions. Go to Donate.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Layan Foundation is a registered Dutch charity with ANBI status. Under certain conditions, donations to an ANBI are deductible from Dutch income tax or corporation tax.
How do I know my money ends up in the right place?
Through the Layan 100% Promise. 100% of your donation goes to the project you choose. We never pay organisational costs, such as the website and administration, or the transaction costs of your payment out of earmarked donations. We pay them from our reserves, unrestricted donations or sponsorship.
In addition, every project is assessed against fixed project criteria, with due diligence on where the money goes, and we record what is done with the funds. See how we work.
How can I get involved besides donating?
Sign up for our updates, share our stories, become an ambassador or volunteer, or join a working group. See Get involved.
How can I partner with you on a project?
We look for partners who fit our mission and our careful way of working. On the Partner with us page you can read the criteria and get in touch.
